What does accessibility mean?

Accessible means that a person can access and navigate in existing environment safely without a help from another person. In a daily life it means, for example, having a direct transition between a sidewalk and the street. In the Internet, it means having access to information without barriers.

In practical implementation it means leaving the decision about how to look at the website to the user – your visitor.

How does a web page become accessible?

Basic requirement for accessible Internet site is the observance of Webstandards (valid HTML / XHTML). In another words, a strict separation of content (text, pictures etc.) and layout. This can be achieved by correct use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

Scalable fonts, properly structured text, contrasting colors, correct encoding of diacritical symbols and ability to navigate the site without a mouse are only a few requirements of an accessible website.

Do I need an accessible website?

The answer should be YES. Even if you would not use your website to sell products, the information could be useful to handicapped visitors. It is also a matter of social conscience and respect..

Do you already have a web page but perhaps not accessible?

It is entirely possible to make an already existing website accessible. Your layout would not change, only the way the layout is executed.

I would be happy to advise you.
